Ran a mile at 5mph (slow for all but me :P) March 24th Food and Exercise Journal

by Alison on March 25, 2010

During today’s workout I decided to work on my speed a bit and did a mile at 5 mph, considering that lately I have been struggling to finish my 3 at a 4.5 mph pace this was a nice breakthrough and I didn’t exceed 85% of my max heartrate. I started my workout with this mile then ran to complete 2 miles then did some strength training.  To keep my heartrate up between sets I hopped on the treadmill and walked at 4.2 mph (yes I can walk faster than I normally run, don’t laugh).  The workout felt good, I got in 3 miles and a full body strength training workout.  I plan to go back to planning my workouts a month at a time, I need the discipline and focus.  Also since the last 5k that I’m signed up for is this Sunday I need some reason to push my runs, although I think I will be signing up for events through the summer, hopefully getting in an 8k (5 miles) and a 10k.  I’m still not sure how I feel about doing a half marathon, even walking it feels like I’m really jumping the gun.  I know I could walk the whole thing and probably  run a chunk of it, but is it worth it at this point?  Will it burn me out? Make me hate running?  Just not sure.  The one I’m thinking about at the moment is the Rock ‘n Roll half marathon the last weekend in June, so I have some time to decide still but it will sell out at some point.  Tomorrow is a 3 mile run, the last one before the race on Sunday and I’m hoping the weather allows me to run it outside.

For breakfast I made oatmeal with greek yogurt and a pear, lunch was leftover baked penne and a salad and for dinner I made slow cooker thai pork with peanut sauce, I LOVE the slow cooker, toss it all in in the morning and let it cook while I go about my day, only downside is that right now my main slow cooker lid is broken so I have to use my multipot (pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker) and this dish had rice too and since it does brown rice in 15 minutes I will not do brown rice on the stove anymore!  So I had to take it out and put it in another pot on the stove while the rice cooked, but bah only one extra pot and I didn’t clean the insert before doing the rice so it got some of the yummy pork juices and teriyaki sauce etc that was clinging to the pot, mmmm tasty.
