New Month’s Resolutions March

by Alison on February 28, 2010

I’m still liking the monthly resolutions, and this month I will mostly be reinforcing the ones I have picked up but I do plan to add one or two new ones.
I hope that these things that I add monthly will add up to lots of changes over the year, taken in smaller more manageable bites. So New Month’s Resolution will be a regular feature.

To review last month my resolutions were

1. To eat vegetarian completely one day a week. (old)

2. To try a new recipe each week. (old)

3. To enjoy some form of activity every day. (old)

4. To lose 5 pounds. (old)

5. To cut out artificial sweetners, so no yogurts, juices, sodas, coffees, etc with splenda, nutrasweet or the like.  If I want something sweet it have to be from something that grew, either fruit or <gasp> real sugar, honey, molasses etc.

6. To beat my 5k time and try to run the whole thing (I will except the hill if needed)

Number one was easy, we have adopted Meatless Mondays pretty easily, even Ben doesn’t seem to mind.  I continued trying a new recipe each week, often more than one, still working in old favourites, I might start cutting everything in half and not doing as many leftovers in the week so we get more variety, but well I can be lazy..  I got at least 30 minutes of activity every day except one.  Most days I did more than 90 minutes with the 5 minutes of walking every hour.  I lost 4 pounds or 1 pound less than my goal, I’m a bit bummed about this but I’ll live, it’s still one pound a week.  I had no artificial sweeteners.  All sweeteners I had came from something that grows, yes they have calories and points but this is more about health than weight.  A teaspoon or 2 of maple syrup or honey a few days a week won’t kill me.  I ran my 5k race, ran it, all of it (well almost all of it, I didn’t run about 100 yards of the uphill portion, close enough)

This month

1. To eat vegetarian one day a week. (old)

2. To enjoy some form of activity every day. (old)

3. To lose 2 pounds. (less since I am out of town or have family in town for almost 2 weeks)

4. To cut out artificial sweetners, so no yogurts, juices, sodas, coffees, etc with splenda, nutrasweet or the like.  If I want something sweet it have to be from something that grew, either fruit or <gasp> real sugar, honey, molasses etc. (old)

5. To beat my 5k time and try to run the whole thing (all of it the whole hill)

I’m not really adding anything new this month as my schedule will not be entirely my own and I don’t want to set myself up for failure.  I figure planning to lose 2 pounds while not in complete control of my diet and exercise is a bold step in itself.
