Still Alive

by Alison on August 10, 2010

So I have not been in much of a blogging mood and I started a book which led to me finishing the whole trilogy with each book over 600 pages, not much time for blogging :P

Thursday I had the second part of my sequential screening and I got the results today with my chances of having a downs baby being 15,000:1, the average for my age is 150:1, so I’m pretty happy with that.  I will probably not have an amnio with those odds since most other age related abnormalities can be found with an ultrasound, apparently.  One more ultrasound is scheduled at this point.  But the baby decided that it didn’t want me to know its sex, grrrrrrr.  Yes, i know in the olden days women didn’t know until it was born but I am a planner and I HATE not knowing, although I might tell people it’s a boy anyways so no pink invades my life.  Grumble grumble, the baby was all high energy and moving around until it was time to look at gender then it sat cross legged, taunting me like a little puka!  Hopefully on August 2nd we will know for sure, they were 85% sure it was a girl at the first one but that was 13 weeks so too early to be really sure.

I had a midwife appointment last week as well and broke down in tears when discussing weight and weight gain.  The midwife asked how I was feeling about gaining weight after having lost 75 pounds and that was it I just burst into tears.  She told me it is perfectly normal to feel this way especially when you can’t feel the baby move and that unless I continue to feel upset about the weight gain after that point not to worry about it.  If I do I need to find someone to talk to.  So yep I still think weight gain sucks, still don’t entirely buy that I can’t properly nourish my lard ass body and a baby if I eat well but fine I’ll gain some.

Ben and I are headed to Vegas for our anniversary, lots of good food and a show or two and lots of good food and lots of good food, did I mention the fantastic restaurants we plan to hit? :P   I don’t go to Vegas for the weather or the gaming I go for the food and the shows and I’m looking forward to it.  We are leaving on a Thursday and coming back on a Monday, can’t wait.  10 days!

We got each other anniversary presents already.  One year is traditionally paper but well paper is boring so we got each other Barnes and Noble Nooks!  Like them so much better than Kindle.  More titles, we can borrow electronic books from the library and put on our own books so we might own a few pirated electronic books, but only ones we already own, before anyone wants to get all self righteous on me :P   I also like that you can lend books to a friend for 14 days, to either read on their nook or computer or Iphone/Ipad/Android app, very cool.  So I have loaded it with books for our trip.

As for what I have been eating I’ll leave you with some photos for fun.

10 minute garden risotto and grilled pork chop

Yes,  you read that right 10 minute (start to finish) risotto.  I made it in the pressure cooker and it tasted fantastic and the texture was perfect!

Steak, grilled bok choy and light twice baked potato

I used light sour cream and cheese for the filling, tasted great and super fast in the convection toaster oven.  I had to give Ben my steak as my body doesn’t like big chunks of red meat at the moment, or big chunks of meat in general, pork seems to be an exception.

Asian Peanut Noodle salad and Boneless Short Ribs

This peanut noodle salad was amazing! and took no time at all  The boneless short ribs were an already marinated Trader Joe’s find.

Pork Tenderloin and Summer Veggie Orzo

A little of this and that in the orzo, very filling and tasty.

Running is out :(

by Alison on July 28, 2010

Yes, I am alive.

So I have tried to run 3 or 4 times in the last 2 weeks and I just can’t do it :(   So much for 2nd trimester being better.  My breasts are so sore that the mere millimeters that they move in my sports bra is agony and I find after running 5 minutes my shoulders are sore, I’m guessing that I hunch my shoulders to try and compensate or cause less movement, it doesn’t work.  So I’m back to walking which is pretty much torture it is so boring now.  Anyone who has run while pregnant have any bra suggestions, I love my sports bra I really don’t move much even doing jumping jacks but it’s just too much at the moment.

The dogs on the other hand think not running is great as they are getting an extra walk a day.  Ironically not running I am probably racking up more miles as I power walk then walk the dogs, slow torture, then walk them again with Ben in the evening, even slower torture, when I walk them alone at least we walk fast between breaks…

I have gained 6 pounds, which might not sound like alot but is way more than I want to have gained at this point and mostly I’m pretty good, although if I am completely honest with myself my snacks have been higher calorie than before, it’s that craving chocolate and fat thing… But I really think it’s the reduction in activity that is doing me in.  We have also eaten out more as there are days I just don’t want to cook, or shop.

So I’m recommitting to healthy eating.  I have been journaling but not posting, maybe I’ll try posting it again.  I also need to get the junk food, healthy mostly but still not needed, out of the house.

July 27th

  • Breakfast –Overnight oats (1/2 cup thick cut oatmeal, 6 oz nonfat yogurt (homemade), Tbsp walnuts, 2 Tbsp dried cherries, 1/4 cup blueberries (from garden), honey), latte, nectarine
  • Lunch – Salad with goat cheese and vinagrette (meh), poached egg, 1 slice whole wheat toast, apricot, 1 80 calorie lemon bar
  • Dinner – Grilled Chicken Sausage on whole wheat bun with dijon mustard, sugar snap peas, 2 lemon bars
  • Snack – 1 trader joes chocolate pecan cloud (sinfully good and dangerous)

10 glasses of water or herb tea

walked 2.5 miles with dogs on 2 separate walks, after about 1.5 miles they start to drag and I start to get really frustrated with moving at 3 miles per hour, OMG so slow!

Struggling

by Alison on July 21, 2010

Sorry I haven’t posted much lately.  I am struggling, I’m feeling fat, I know I know I’m pregnant but really I just feel fat because I don’t feel pregnant… I also feel like a slug because my energy has been so low and I can barely run a mile before I need a walking break.  UGH!  I have been craving sugary, high fat foods and yes, eating some of them, stupid treacherous body, I don’t want that stuff!

Yes, I could walk but it bores me to death, I don’t get my heartrate up, so I get no afterburn and well yeah, it’s BORING!!!!!!  I’m hoping this second trimester stuff is true but so far I’m more tired and my breasts more sore, WTF!

So yes, I’m feeling sorry for myself, I’m aware but it still sucks! One baby just one baby, not doing this again! (especially as I would probably be almost 40 if not 40, no thanks!)

Okay, done whining now.  I have a bunch of food pics to post and I will later this week.

The weekend was pretty kicked back.  Watched world cup soccer, drank some beer, relaxed.  The weather on Sunday was perfect for a run, cloudy and cool in the morning, although a bit humid.  I managed 3 miles, my shins felt fine and still feel okay today, hopefully that is over! On Saturday I made pizzas [...]

I haven’t been in the blogosphere much this holiday weekend.  So we’ll play a quick game of catch up.  We didn’t do much of anything this weekend.  My mother in law came to visit and I had a stressed out dog.  Poor Drake was stressed even with his Xanex   But at least he didn’t [...]

July 1st Food and Exercise Journal

July 2, 2010

Half the year gone, how does that happen so fast?  Not that it feels like July here in Western Washington, more like the middle of January… I woke up with a splitting headache and pushed off running for a bit to see if it would go away, no dice.  So I decided to run on [...]

June 30, 2010

Okay random title :p  I have the granola recipe you will find it below.  These bars are not super sweet and definitely on the chewy not crunchy end of the scale but I loved them. My hips felt fine today, well no better or worse, so I’ll stick with running for now but I have [...]
